Senior Product Development Chemist – EFI Polymers
This new full-time position is based in Denver Colorado, reports to the Vice President of Technology and is responsible for developing new formulated products, technical product support and trouble shooting. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in formulating epoxy & polyurethane potting, embedment & adhesives products for the electrical and electronics markets. Experience in silicone formulating will be considered.
POSITION: Senior Product Development Chemist
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Degree with minimum of 8+ years of relevant epoxy & polyurethane formulating experience.
DUTIES
Primary Task: Self direct with minimal guidance, commercially viable new product development projects, technical support projects and customer trouble shooting projects.
Product Types: Electrical Potting Compounds, Adhesives, Sealants, Industrial Coating (100% solids and waterborne).
Chemistries:, Epoxy, Urethane, Silicones, Polyurea, Waterborne (acrylic & urethane dispersions, PVA)
(Mandatory-formulating experience in any of first three chemistries listed above)
Familiar with formulating techniques to impart thermal conductance, flame resistance, stress relief, electrical insulation, environmental/chemical resistance, and meeting UL and 3rd party test specifications
Expected Results: Able to design commercial products that successfully address customer’s needs and performance requirements at a competitive cost. Develop working formulas, coordinate and/or perform all testing and any follow-up work that is necessary to qualify new products for customer’s applications. Development projects should include work that expands our current product offerings into new technologies and new chemistries. Interactions with sales, management and coworkers are in a manner conducive to harmony to ensure a high rate of success for personal and business growth.
OTHER DUTIES:
a) Review new opportunities and recommend active/existing products when applicable
b) Keep abreast and evaluate new technologies that are relevant to your industry
c) Supply technical information to support our regulatory department efforts
d) Provide technical support to the production department to improve EFI’s processing capabilities and quality control program.
e) Manage a robust/retrievable record keeping practice to include electronic, lab book, and written reports
f) Coordinate as necessary, outside testing and contract labs
SKILLS:
a) Strong communication skills and a quick study.
b) Ability to comprehend customer needs and product requirements communicated by the sales team and identify key information that leverages success in the product development cycle.
c) Ability to address customer questions about product problems directly supporting existing business and troubleshooting product failures.
d) Ability to address questions regarding what EFI does and what we sell.
e) Ability to communicate across all departments within EFI to achieve company objectives.
f) Brings a support group of vendors and industry colleagues to achieve personal success.
ANALYTICAL / TECHNICAL ABILITIES:
Experience operating standard laboratory equipment key to our industry
( e.g. viscometer, TMA, DSC, TGA, Instron, FTIR)

c) Retrieval of historical supporting data when relevant
d) Prioritizing projects and problem solving
e) Optimizing product performance and cost objectives

TECHNICAL TEAM:
This position will report directly to the VP of Technology and will collaborate as necessary with Sales, R&D Chemists and Lab Technicians.
